Study: Children Stubbornness Overcomes Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Ban

Study: Children Stubbornness Overcomes Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Ban

(ePharmaNews) – Children suppression regarding their nutrition was proved to be a futile policy, they should be convinced. Otherwise, reversed results can happen, according to a new study.

The researcher, who published the study in JAMA: Archives of Adolescents Medicine & Pediatrics, observed the effect of prohibiting Sugar-Sweetened Beverages in schools of 40 states on the daily consumption of these drinks by students.

The researchers investigated whether the banning led to a decrease in the overall consumption of sodas and other sweetened drinks. The results were extremely frustrating as no differences were noticed in schools were only sodas were banned compared to schools with no policy regarding the issue. Students of schools that banned all beverages, not only sodas, consumed less amount of sweetened drinks during the school time, but the same daily amount of drinks compared to other schools!

The study reminds us with the decision of California state to ban fast-food fans from working next to school between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., which led to a wave of rage among vans' owners. "We will figure out a solution, and our good relationship with kids will never stop" Said one of them, and sounds correct depending on our study.
